Today marks a very special milestone at Silverstone Leasing, as Aby Mason celebrates 14 years with the business.
Aby was the very first person to join Silverstone Leasing and has been part of the journey almost from day one. When we look back at how much has changed during that time, it is difficult to believe just how quickly those 14 years have passed.
There are three words that probably sum it up better than anything else: trust, loyalty and dedication.
From the Early Days of Silverstone Leasing
When Aby joined us, Silverstone Leasing was a very different business to the one it is today.
We were still finding our feet, building our customer base and trying to establish exactly what kind of leasing company we wanted to become. In those early days, we were delivering around 60 vehicles a year. Today, that figure runs into the thousands.
Aby started in Customer Care, and even the name of that department meant something to us. We deliberately chose “Customer Care” rather than “Customer Service” because we wanted the business to be about more than simply processing an order or answering a telephone call.
We wanted customers to feel that somebody genuinely cared about their experience.
That idea has stayed with us ever since.
If truth be told, in those early days we were learning as we went. There was no grand masterplan and plenty of things were worked out along the way, but there was always a determination to do things properly and build a business based around people and relationships.
Fourteen Years of Life and Business
A lot happens over 14 years, both inside and outside of work.
During that time, we have seen marriages, births, bereavements, celebrations, difficult periods, huge changes in the motor industry and, of course, a global pandemic.
There have been some incredible highs and some difficult lows, but through all of it Aby has remained one of the constants within the business.
Anyone who runs a company will know that growth does not necessarily make things easier. The business may be bigger today, but the challenges are bigger too. In many ways, it still feels like day one.
The difference is that you have more experience behind you and, if you are fortunate, you have people around you who have been through the journey with you.
For me, Aby is one of those people.
Over the years she has become affectionately known as “Miss Mason” and, perhaps slightly less officially, my “work wife”. She has been a sounding board, a trusted colleague and somebody who knows the business inside out.
A Huge Part of the Silverstone Story
Silverstone Leasing today is a very different operation from the company Aby joined 14 years ago.
We now help thousands of customers across the UK with personal and business leasing, work with a wide range of manufacturers, funders and dealer groups, and have expanded into areas including fleet management and salary sacrifice.
Alongside Silverstone Leasing, Embrace – by Silverstone Leasing has also become an important part of the wider business.
But however much a company grows, the people behind it remain the most important part.
You can invest in technology, systems, marketing and processes, but loyalty and experience cannot simply be bought. They are built over time.
Aby has helped shape the standards and culture we still try to live by today. She has supported customers, colleagues and the business itself through almost every stage of its development.
Silverstone Leasing would not be the business it is today without the people who have helped build it, and Aby has played a very big part in that story.
Thank You, Aby
Fourteen years of service deserves recognition, particularly when someone has been there from almost the very first chapter.
Aby, thank you for your loyalty, your commitment and everything you have given to Silverstone Leasing over the years.
We have come a long way from those first 60 vehicles, and there have certainly been a few more grey hairs added along the way.
It has been quite a journey so far. - Scott Norville, Managing Director.
Congratulations on 14 years, Miss Mason. Here’s to the next decade.
