Plug-in Hybrid Car (PHEV) Leasing Deals

From £258 per month, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) combines a traditional petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery. Unlike a standard self-charging hybrid, a PHEV can be plugged into a home wallbox, a three-pin socket, or a public charging point to recharge its battery, giving you a much longer electric-only driving range.

Most modern PHEVs offer between 30 and 70 miles of pure electric range, which is more than enough to cover the average UK daily commute of around 20 miles without using a drop of fuel. When the battery runs low or you need to travel further, the petrol engine takes over seamlessly, giving you the freedom to drive hundreds of miles without worrying about range anxiety.

This makes plug-in hybrids an ideal middle ground between fully electric cars and conventional petrol or diesel vehicles. You get the environmental and financial benefits of electric driving for everyday journeys, combined with the reassurance of a combustion engine for longer trips, motorway runs, or when a charger isn't convenient.

PHEV vs Hybrid vs Electric: What's the Difference?

Choosing the right type of electrified vehicle can feel confusing. Here's a clear breakdown of how plug-in hybrids compare with self-charging hybrids and fully electric cars to help you decide which is the best fit for your driving habits.

Euro 6e-bis Changes from April 2026

It's worth noting that from April 2026, the UK will adopt the Euro 6e-bis emissions standard. This stricter testing procedure will increase the official CO₂ figures for many PHEVs, even though the vehicles themselves haven't changed. The government has confirmed a two-year easement period from April 2026 to April 2028 to help businesses and drivers adjust.

During this easement, impacted PHEVs will have their CO₂ deemed at a nominal 1 g/km for BiK purposes, protecting company car drivers from sudden tax increases. Any PHEV registered before April 2026 will retain its original, lower CO₂ rating for the entire lease term.

If you're considering a PHEV as a business lease, now is an excellent time to lock in favourable BiK rates before the landscape shifts further. Our team can help you calculate the exact tax savings based on your circumstances — simply get in touch for a personalised quote.

Corporation Tax Benefits

Businesses leasing a plug-in hybrid with CO₂ emissions of 50 g/km or less can deduct 100% of the lease rental payments against corporation tax. For vehicles exceeding 50 g/km, 15% of the lease cost is disallowed. This makes low-emission PHEVs one of the most tax-efficient ways to provide company vehicles.

Plug-in Hybrid Leasing FAQs

Most modern PHEVs offer between 30 and 70 miles of pure electric range on a full charge. Some newer models, like the Škoda Superb iV, can achieve up to 79 miles. This is typically more than enough to cover the average UK daily commute of around 20 miles entirely on electric power.

Yes, significantly so if you charge regularly. Driving on electric power costs approximately 2–5p per mile compared with 15–20p per mile for petrol. If most of your driving is short commutes and local trips covered by the battery, you could see fuel savings of 50–75% compared with an equivalent petrol car.

When the electric battery is depleted, the petrol or diesel engine takes over automatically and seamlessly. You simply continue driving as you would in a conventional car until you can plug in to recharge. This is one of the key advantages of a PHEV — you never have to worry about being stranded without charge.

Yes. Silverstone Leasing offers no-deposit PHEV lease deals where your first monthly payment is the same as all subsequent payments. While a higher initial rental (typically 3, 6, or 9 months) will reduce your monthly cost, a no-deposit option is available if you prefer to keep upfront costs to a minimum.

PHEV lease deals at Silverstone Leasing currently start from around £258 per month including VAT for the Ford Kuga PHEV. Other affordable options include the Omoda 7 from £261/month, the MG HS from £263/month, and the Hyundai Tucson PHEV from £269/month. Prices depend on your chosen initial payment, contract length, and annual mileage.

PHEVs are an excellent company car choice. For the 2025/26 tax year, plug-in hybrids with CO₂ emissions of 1–50 g/km attract BiK rates of just 6–19% depending on electric range, compared with 23–37% for petrol and diesel cars. This can save a higher-rate taxpayer several hundred pounds per month. Businesses also benefit from fully deductible lease payments against corporation tax for vehicles emitting 50 g/km or less.

Charging times depend on the battery size and the charger used. With a 7kW home wallbox, most PHEVs will fully charge in 1–3 hours. Using a standard three-pin domestic socket takes longer, typically 4–6 hours. Rapid public chargers can top up a PHEV battery much faster, though most PHEV drivers find overnight home charging covers their daily needs.

A home charger is not essential but is strongly recommended to get the most out of your PHEV. Without regular charging, you'll rely more heavily on the petrol engine and miss out on the fuel savings and reduced emissions that make PHEVs so appealing. You can charge from a standard three-pin socket if you don't have a dedicated wallbox, or take advantage of workplace and public charging infrastructure. Silverstone Leasing customers can also get £50 off a Cord EV home charger.

A self-charging hybrid (HEV) has a small battery that is recharged only through regenerative braking and the engine — it cannot be plugged in, and offers very limited electric-only driving (typically 1–2 miles). A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has a much larger battery that can be charged via a plug, offering 30–70 miles of pure electric range. This means PHEVs are significantly more efficient for daily driving and attract lower company car tax rates.

Yes. While the most popular PHEV lease contracts run for 24, 36, or 48 months, Silverstone Leasing also offers short-term leasing options. Contact our team to discuss flexible contract lengths that suit your needs.
