We Did It: The Amazing Northampton Run 2025

When the finish line came into view in Northampton’s Market Square, it felt like everything came together — training, nerves, early morning starts, and the support of each other. Completing The Amazing Northampton Run was something special for all three of us — Scott, Sophie Norville and Tom Bailey — and we want to share what the day was like, what the course offered, and what we learned from the experience.

About the Amazing Northampton Run

The Amazing Northampton Run took place on Sunday 14th September 2025 and brought together nearly 1,500 runners for a day of fitness, community spirit, and friendly competition. The event featured multiple distances — the iconic Half Marathon (13.1 miles), a 3‑Mile Fun Run, and a Half Marathon Relay — meaning there was something for everyone, whether you were a seasoned runner or just taking part for fun.

The race starts and finishes in Northampton’s Market Square, creating an electric atmosphere at both ends of the course. Northampton town centre is closed to traffic during the event, allowing runners to enjoy a rare experience of running freely through the streets.

The Course Experience

The course was designed to showcase the very best of Northampton, taking runners past key landmarks, along beautiful riverside stretches, and through scenic parks. Here are some of the highlights we experienced:

  • Market Square Start & Finish – The heart of Northampton provided an incredible buzz as we set off and later returned to cross the finish line.

  • Landmarks & Sporting Venues – We passed All Saints Church, the Carlsberg Brewery, Franklin’s Gardens (home of Northampton Saints), and Sixfields Stadium (home of Northampton Town FC).

  • Riverside Running – The stretches along the River Nene were some of the most peaceful and motivating parts of the race.

  • Abington Park – A beautiful change of scenery mid‑race, giving a welcome mental boost.

  • Surprises Along the Way – From the “Rocky Steps” near Sixfields to the rolling bridges, there were plenty of moments that kept us focused and challenged.

Our Personal Reflections

Each of us took something unique away from the event:

  • Scott: The uphill sections near Spencer Bridge Road were a challenge, but seeing Franklin’s Gardens and the support from spectators gave me a huge boost to keep going.

  • Sophie: I loved the calmness of the riverside paths. They helped me find my rhythm, and the atmosphere at the finish line was incredible — a real celebration.

  • Tom: The crowd support was fantastic throughout. The steps added a bit of fun (and pain!), but pacing properly meant I could enjoy the final stretch into Market Square.

The Amazing Northampton Run is more than just a race. It’s a tour of the town, a celebration of community spirit, and a personal challenge that leaves you with unforgettable memories. For us, it was about pushing our limits, supporting each other, and experiencing Northampton in an entirely new way.
